Generative Components, Day One

Today was the first day of the Generative Components seminar. This completes the trifecta of parametric modeling programs that I\’m trying to learn this year. After one day, there are certainly some things to recommend this software. Unfortunately, its also still in version 1 – which means that its functional but not necessarily elegant. I keep trying to figure out how undergraduate students are supposed to use this to do anything. The people in this seminar are by no means slow, but there was a fair amount of struggling with the interface, and a few times I was told that operations which should be fairly straightforward aren\’t available yet.

However, I do keep reminding myself that its still a young software package – its only been commercially available for under a month – so there\’s plenty of time. Windows didn\’t get really useful until version 3. I\’m also mindful of the fact that its hard to really pass judgement on a package after one day of use.
